Find Medical Insurance
The majority of US citizens access medical insurance through their employers. However, this is not possible for everyone. Sometimes the insurance covers the employee, but not others in the employee’s family and other possibilities need to be explored. In some cases, COBRA extended coverage will be a means of retaining insurance when employment with one employer ends. Health insurance can be purchased in the market, but costs for an individual may be prohibitive, especially if their history includes a significant need for health care treatment.
When the private sector does not work, there are some good public programs, which can provide access to health care treatment. These include Medical Assistance (Medicaid), Medicare, and MinnesotaCare. People accessing health care through one or more of the public programs will have to meet the eligibility criteria of the program. To see if you would qualify for one of these programs, contact your county social services department.
Minnesota Comprehensive Health Association (MCHA) is a nonprofit, which is regulated by the MN Dept. of Commerce and provides insurance for people who have been turned down by the marketplace, generally due to their extensive health care needs. MCHA is expensive, but it is a good option for some people.
