Advocacy and Education Program Support

Purpose:
This position offers general office support to the core programs of MHAM

Location:
MHAM, 475 Cleveland Ave N #222, Saint Paul MN 55104

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming calls
  • Assign new cases to Individual Advocates
  • Provide information on and referrals to community resources and support groups
  • Verify information on resource lists
  • Maintain educational materials list
  • Mail education packets
  • Label materials with MHAM contact information
  • Make copies for Issues Advocacy, Individual Advocacy, and Education Programs

Reports to:
Policy and Outreach Associate

Length of Appointment and Time Commitment:
Minimum of three months; minimum of four hours per week during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 9 am – 4:30 pm)

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in issues facing people living with mental illnesses
  • Good communication skills
  • Comfort in speaking on the phone
  • Sensitivity toward people living with mental illnesses and their families

Support Provided:
Volunteers will receive a one-hour orientation to the agency and a two-hour training on the duties for the position, as well as on-going supervision from the Policy and Outreach Associate. Individual Advocates and the Education Coordinator will also be available to answer questions.
