The History of MHAM: Celebrating 70 Years of Mental Health Advocacy and Education in Minnesota

MHAM is the state's first mental health advocacy organization. MHAM was founded on May 8, 1939, by mental health reformers and lay and professional leaders who were concerned about the custodial settings of the time. In 2009, we recognized our 70th anniversary. A lot has happened in 70 years. Find out how we got where we are today by reading our history, prepared by Paula Seeger, a MHAM volunteer.
